An anonymous phone call set off the entire chain of events leading up to Indrani Mukerjea’s arrest in the murder of Sheena Bora.
The Quint has learnt that the tip-off the Mumbai Police received that Sheena was murdered came from an anonymous caller in Meerut, near Delhi.
“It was an anonymous call and we followed-up on the information supplied by the caller,” police sources said. A further investigation on the antecedents of the anonymous caller indicated that he was peripherally linked to INX Media, a company that was founded by the Mukerjeas.
After INX Media was liquidated, the Mukerjeas allegedly distributed some of the monies to various ‘proxies’ under one condition - that they return the money to the Mukerjeas later. These ‘proxies’ earned a commission in return.
It was one of these proxies, based out of Meerut, who tipped off the Mumbai Police that Sheena Bora was murdered, perhaps by her own mother.
