A Mumbai sessions court found Chandrabhan Sanap guilty of rape and murder of 23-year-old Esther Anuhya. The former TCS staffer was abducted, raped and murdered along the Eastern Express highway on January 5, 2014. Mumbai police said that Sanap was convicted under all IPC sections he was charged under.
The quantum of sentencing will be pronounced on Wednesday.
According to the Mumbai police, Sanap had dragged Anuhya behind the bushes along the highway, raped her and tried to burn her body. The police had recovered charred remains of Anuhya days later on January 16, 2014 near the same highway.
According to The Indian Express, chemical analysis of the evidence proved that Sanap was with Anuhya when the crime was committed. Analysis of the victim’s bone with her father’s DNA helped establish that the deceased was indeed 23-year-old Esther Anuhya.
Analysis of the trolley bag found in Sanap’s possession during his arrest had Anuhya’s DNA on it, which was the clincher.
