The Delhi High Court earlier in the month directed app-based taxi services like Ola, Uber and others, to not charge surge pricing in the National Capital Region from 22 August.

The court had directed the app-based taxi services to follow the government prescribed rates. According to slab laid out by the government, the fare for Economy Radio Taxi is Rs 12.50 per km, while it is Rs 14 per km for non-AC black and yellow top taxi, and Rs 16 per km for AC black and yellow top taxi.

The notified fare of Radio Taxi cabs (distinguished by an LCD board on roof top displaying ‘Radio Taxi’) is Rs 23 per km with an additional night charge – 25 percent of the fare – applicable between 11pm and 5am.

The deadline was fixed after Uber had informed the court that it needs 10 days to take required steps and make necessary changes to ensure that passengers do not face any difficulties at the time of payment.
