Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday, the police said.
The bodies have been recovered from the encounter site where the search operation is still in progress, a police official said.
The militants have been identified as belonging to Zakir Musa’s Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
Regarding the encounter, Munir Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, said:
Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Gulabbagh area of Tral in Pulwama after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants there.
As the forces were conducting the search operation, the ambushed militants fired upon them resulting in an encounter.
This comes after an infiltration bid was foiled by the security forces in the Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir on 7 August. Five terrorists were killed during the operation and weapons were recovered from them. Speaking to ANI, Brigade Commander RK Suresh said that a huge quantity of arms and ammunition with Pakistani markings was recovered from the Machil operation.
