The ability to save hard-earned wealth is indeed an important characteristic of the quintessential Gujarati. A couple in Surat, however, has set a new benchmark in terms of cost-cutting.

During a time when the country is dealing with acute cash shortage, Daksha and Bharat Parmar decided to go ahead with their wedding. The crisis, however, did alter their original wedding celebration plans.

Instead of getting bogged down by the crisis emerging out of demonetisation, the couple and their families decided to drastically reduce the wedding cost to merely Rs 500 – and interestingly, just served water and tea to the invited guests.

Clearly, the prospect of marriage was more important to the two families – much more than a grand celebration. Since the wedding date was already fixed, they made the best of their available resources instead of delaying the wedding,

So, here’s a thought – if you thought that only a lavish Rs 500 crore wedding could make for a unique spectacle, think again.
