A Delhi Police sub-inspector was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Shahdara’s Vivek Vihar area, officials said on Monday, 20 May.
The sub-inspector has been identified as Rajkumar. He was posted at the Delhi Police Control Room (PCR).
"According to the victim's family members, Rajkumar and his neighbour Bhuri, a notorious character in Vivek vihar had some dispute and a fight took place between them,” Meghna Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), said.
The victim's family also alleged that the area is "full of bootleggers" and is extremely unsafe.
"According to people present on the spot, an argument took place between them over a video," Yadav added.
Rajkumar was rushed to Max Hospital in Patparganj where he was declared brought dead.
"No injury mark has been found on Rajkumar's body and the post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death," the DCP added.
The family members of the deceased sub-inspector said they have no faith in the police. They questioned why the cops were late in reaching the place where sub-inspector Rajkumar was beaten up.
Reacting to the news of Rajkumar’s alleged murder, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called the incident extremely shocking. He also questioned, in a tweet, who will take on the responsibility of safeguarding Delhiites if the police itself was not safe.
The Delhi Commission For Women, meanwhile, has issued a notice to city police over the killing of a sub-inspector in Shahdara and sought details from them about their investigation in the case.
DCW has asked for details of the accused and previous cases registered against the alleged culprit along with status report of each case.
The notice has sought a reply from the police by 24 May.
