Dalit men have found a novel way to protest the string of attacks on the community in Gujarat – by using social media to show off their moustaches. The protest comes after Dalit men were allegedly thrashed by members of the Rajput community, reportedly for “sporting a moustache”.

Several Dalit men, reportedly from villages near Sanand, are using an image depicting a moustache and a crown, accompanied by text ‘Mr Dalit’, as their WhatsApp display photos.

Now, the protest has spread to other social media platforms, with Dalit youth posting their selfies, flaunting their moustaches in protest. The photos are being posted under hashtags like #RightToMoustache and #MrDalit.

Some even changed their Facebook profile pictures flaunting their moustache as a sign of protest against casteism.
