9. Cops Had ‘Verified’ Gk-II Help, Failed to Detect Crime Record

The murder of 91-year-old Kishan Dev Khosla by the household help in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash II on Saturday, 31 August, reveals how the police’s verification process for domestic help may be an eyewash.

Local beat constables had visited the Khosla household in the run-up to Independence Day as part of their routine verification drill, enquired about Khosla and his wife, and taken down details of the help, Kishan. The cops then checked the criminal records at the thana level, which in this case was CR Park, and found him clean.

As it turns out, Kishan did have a criminal record; two cases of house theft in Hauz Khas and one snatching case registered in Saket.
