1. In Karnataka, Class 9 Student Found Dead

A Class IX student of Sainik School in Karnataka died under mysterious circumstances, and the boy’s father, a hockey coach at the school, has accused five staff members of killing him.

NP Chingappa, 14, was found unconscious in a toilet attached to a science laboratory at the school on Saturday evening by school staff and was later declared brought dead at a local hospital. Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father NT Poovaiah, a murder case has been registered in Kushalnagar Rural police station against five staff members.

Sainik School, which comes under the purview of the Defence Ministry, has stated in an official statement that the boy had been counselled on Saturday afternoon for an “act of indiscipline”.

2. Barber Beaten up for ‘Cutting Hair of Dalits’, Four Booked

Four persons belonging to an upper caste were booked on Monday for allegedly attacking a barber because he “cut the hair of Dalits” at Umrecha village of Satlasna taluka of Mehsana district.  In a complaint lodged with Satlasna police station, Jasiben Bhagwandas alleged that her son Jigar, who runs a salon in the village, was attacked by four persons on Sunday night. She identified the attackers as Govind Chaudhary, Nanji Chaudhary, Rajesh Chaudhary and Vasant Chaudhary, all residents of the same village.

Jasiben has alleged that about 10 days ago, Jigar was warned by the accused persons that he should not cut the hair of Dalit men. But Jigar paid no heed. The allegation is that “Jigar was attacked by the accused just for entertaining Dalits at his shop,” said Sub-Inspector Ratilal Makwana, who is investigating the case.

3. Man 'Murdered' in UP, Found in Bhiwandi

A 35-year-old man from Mira Road trotted out a deviously ingenious ruse to get even with his in-laws for having got him arrested. Pannelal Yadav, who hails from Maharganj in Uttar Pradesh, was declared "murdered by his in-laws" in Uttar Pradesh in 2016.

In a curious turn of events, the crime branch of Mumbai police received a tip-off about a "murdered" man who was living in Mumbai. A bit of investigation led the Mumbai cops to him.

4. Five Kerala Priests ‘Blackmail, Sexually Abuse’ Woman

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Kerala on Monday sent five priests on leave after they were accused of blackmailing and sexually abusing a married woman over a few years. The church’s working committee member and priests’ trustee Father MO John said an inquiry panel had been formed to look the allegation against the five priests, who were working with the parishes under four diocese of the Kottayam-headquartered church. One of the priests belong to Delhi diocese of the church.

“The five priests…have been asked to keep away from officiating all priestly duties and function as head of parishes. They are not under suspension. Their fate would be decided only after the inquiry report,’’ said Fr John.

5. Mumbai: Journalist Alleges Assault by Female Passenger in Uber, Claims She Was Racially Abused

A Mumbai-based woman journalist Monday alleged that she was physically assaulted and verbally abused by an Uber co-passenger while taking a pool ride in the city. An FIR against the assaulter has been registered by the police, the scribe said.

Narrating her ordeal, Ushnota Paul said the fellow passenger turned “hostile” from the start of the journey and started yelling at the driver insisting that she be dropped first. But when Paul intervened, the woman proceeded to verbally abuse her, then racially abused and physically attacked her.

6. Nephew Stabs Uncle to Death

A man was stabbed to death by his nephew in south Delhi for allegedly making a lewd remark at a girl whom the nephew was planning to marry.

Sunil (32) allegedly made the remarks during a family get-together on Sunday at his house in a JJ camp near Tigri. An argument followed during which Sunil abused Vishal (28), who left in a huff. However, he retuned a few hours later with a friend, Rahul, dragged Sunil out of his house and stabbed him repeatedly with a meat cleaver.

7. Major Handa First Saw Victim on Facebook, Befriended Her Spouse to Meet Her

Major Nikhil Rai Handa, who the police suspect murdered Shailja Dwivedi, the wife of another major in the Indian Army, didn’t have many friends in the military. But he was very active on Facebook and that was how he came into contact with Shailja, in 2015, after seeing a photograph of her on a common friend’s timeline, according to police.

Handa then befriended her husband, Major Amit Dwivedi, so that he could attend parties at the Dwivedis’ residence, investigators probing the case claimed. He was a frequent visitor to the Dwivedi residence in Nagaland.

8. Wanted Gangster & Six Aides Arrested

One of the most wanted criminals in the city, CD Mani, and six members of his gang were rounded up by a special team of Chennai Police near Mamallapuram on Saturday night.

With 28 cases against him, Mani was on the run. On Saturday, he threatened a businessman at gun-point in Mambalam. Based on a tip-off that Mani and his gang members were roaming the city and its outskirts in an SUV, a special team was formed by Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan to nab them.
