The United Arab Emirates backed India’s move to revoke special status of Jammu and Kashmir and said that the reorganisation of states is “not a unique incident in history of independent India and that it was mainly aimed at reducing regional disparity and improving efficiency,” reported ANI.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday, hit out at India for scrapping Article 370, as tensions rise between the two nations.
Khan said the Kashmir issue will be taken to the United Nations and that the international community about the “treatment of minorities in India under the racist ideology of the BJP,” according to ANI.
On Monday, the UN had said that it was following with concern the tense situation in the India-Pakistan region and urged all parties to "exercise restraint."
Parliament on Tuesday, approved a resolution revoking special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and a bill for splitting the state into two Union Territories.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the creation of Ladakh as a Union Territory is an “internal matter of India.”
The move sparked jubilation in Buddhist-dominated Leh town for coming close to the fulfilment of their long standing demand, reported PTI.
The Sri Lankan prime minister said that Ladakh will finally become an Indian state.
Asking India and Pakistan to exercise restraint, China on Tuesday said they should avoid actions that "unilaterally" change the status quo and exacerbate tensions between them as it voiced "serious concern" over the situation in Kashmir, PTI reported.
Asserting that China's position on Kashmir was "clear and consistent", Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the issue is a legacy of history between India and Pakistan, which is also the consensus of the international community.
Responding to the Chinese Spokesperson, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “India doesn't comment on internal affairs of other countries and similarly expects other countries to do likewise,” ANI reported.
Further, MEA said, “So far as India-China Boundary Question is concerned, the two sides have agreed to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of boundary question on the basis of Political Parameters & Guiding Principles for Settlement of India-China Boundary Question.”
