Bajrang Dal leader and self-styled cow vigilante Monu Manesar, who was arrested by the Haryana Police in Gurugram on Tuesday, 12 September, was handed over to the Rajasthan Police, officials confirmed to The Quint.
After his arrest, Monu was produced before the Nuh District court. The Rajasthan Police gave a production warrant, and took over his custody.
A .45 Bore pistol and three live bullets were found on Monu.
Monu had released a video calling for “huge numbers” to be present at a yatra that was being organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). "I will participate in it too," he had said.
Nuh locals said that Manesar's viral video, as well as one posted by his associate Bittu Bajrangi, had caused fear and paranoia among them even before the yatra reached their area, The Quint had reported.
Meanwhile, Hindutva organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad as come out in support of Monu.
"Monu Manesar has been arrested by the Rajasthan Police. Whereas some time ago they had considered him innocent. Monu has been arrested for the Muslim vote bank in the elections, which will cost them (Rajasthan Government) a lot. Vishwa Hindu Parishad will help Monu Manesar in every way possible, and will also protest if necessary," VHP posted on X attributing it its working president Alok Kumar.
