The total number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai stood at 10,527 on Wednesday, 6 May, with the death toll touching 412, according to the state’s health department.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday held a meeting with the chief ministers of Congress-ruled states on the COVID-19 situation and the ongoing lockdown.
"After 17 May, what? And after 17 May, how? What criteria is the government of India using to judge how long the lockdown is to continue?" she was quoted as saying at the meeting.

The Karnataka government on Wednesday announced a relief package for farmers, MSMEs, handloom weavers, flower growers, washermen, barbers, auto and taxi drivers, among others.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday called the government's decision to raise the excise duty on petrol and diesel as "unfair", and asked for it to be withdrawn.
With the COVID-19 lockdown severely crippling the economy, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced a hike of 15 percent in excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), a hike of Rs 10 on normal brands and a hike of Rs 20 on premium brands per 180 ml bottle, ANI reported.
The state-run liquor shops will be opened from 7 May, except in containment zones.

The "unilateral action" of the West Bengal government to stop cross-border movement of essential goods will have larger implications for the Indian government with regard to its legal binding international commitments, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla wrote.
"Large number of trucks carrying essential supplies to Bangladesh have been stranded at different border crossing points... Large number of truck drivers while returning from Bangladesh have not been allowed to cross into India," the MHA wrote to the state government.
The central ministry also said that the Bengal government is yet to send a compliance report on the supply of essential goods through the Indo-Nepal, Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Bangla borders.
"No state or UT will stop movement of cargo for cross-border land trade under treaties with neighbouring countries," it said.
