India on Monday, 8 June, reported the highest single-day spike of 9,983 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the country to 2,56,611. As many as 206 deaths were also reported in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 7,135. According to the Health Ministry data, there are now 1,25,381 active cases, while 1,24,094 patients have been cured or discharged.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Monday reported 2,553 new cases of COVID-19 and 109 deaths, taking the tally in the state to 88,528 and the death toll to 3,169. As many as 1,562 new infections were reported in Tamil Nadu and 1,007 in Delhi, taking the total number of cases in the two places to 33,229 and 29,943 respectively.

The Government of Puducherry said, “total 128 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Puducherry till date, of which 75 are active cases and 52 have been treated/discharged.”

Delhi Police Crime Branch said, “Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Saad has yet not submitted COVID-19 test report issued by a government approved lab. He will be called for interrogation once he submits the report.”
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, “We have 8,500-9,000 beds as of now, in the next 15 days we will take it to 15,000-17,000. Since the doubling rate of cases is 14-15 days, we think cases will reach 56,000 in the next two weeks.”
“If Centre would've stopped (international) flights in time, situation could've been better. Given the cases, hospitals are needed for Delhites. Neighbouring states say they have less cases so it shouldn't be issue,” he added, after facing criticism over reserving hospital for Delhi residents only.
Delhi High Court issues notice to Delhi government on a petition seeking direction for ensuring that government and private hospitals shall not deny admission to asymptomatic and symptomatic COVID-19 patients. The petition has also sought direction for not charging high amount for PPE from patients, reports ANI.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has gone into self-quarantine and will get himself tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday, reported PTI, quoting officials.
Andhra Pradesh Health Department said, “In the last 24 hours, 125 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Andhra Pradesh. Total cases in the state rise to 3843 including 1,381 active cases, 2,387 discharged and 75 deaths.”
Government of Manipur said, “37 new COVID-19 cases reported in the state, taking the total number of cases to 209 of which 157 are active cases.”
As many as 53 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Tripura, taking the tally in the state to 803, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, nine new cases have been reported in Puducherry, taking the active cases in the Union territory to 75.
The Delhi government will hold a meeting on Tuesday to assess whether there is community transmission of COVID-19 in the city, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said.
"A meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority will be held tomorrow on the COVID-19 situation and to discuss whether there is community spread. If participant experts say there is community spread in Delhi, our strategy will change. I'll participate in the meeting," Sisodia was quoted by ANI as saying.
The Mizoram government has decided to impose a two-week ‘total lockdown’ in the state from 9 June "in view of the prevailing situation".
“A consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga decides to impose two-week total lockdown in the state from 9 June 2020 in view of the prevailing situation. Lockdown guidelines will be notified shortly,” the Mizoram government said.
“The consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga decides to extend the period of quarantine, which currently is 14 days, to 21 days with immediate effect,” it added.
The state has 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 33 active cases and one recovered patient.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the government has decided to extend the lockdown till 30 June in the state.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday directed authorities to ensure that medical treatment is not denied to any patient on the grounds of not being a resident of the national capital, reported ANI.
This comes a day after CM Kejriwal said that Delhi government hospitals and some private hospitals in Delhi will only treat patients from the national capital.
The LG also overruled the AAP government's order on testing being limited only to symptomatic cases, saying asymptomatic ones should also be covered.
