COVID-19: India’s Case Tally Rises to 1,25,101; Biggest 1-Day Jump

The number of coronavirus cases in India jumped by 6,654 to 1,25,101 on Saturday, 23 May, in the biggest-ever spike in 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 137 to 3,720. According to Health Ministry data, there are now 69,597 active cases across the country, while 51,783 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated.

Meanwhile, the United States recorded 1,260 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 95,921, news agency AFP reported on Saturday, citing the Johns Hopkins University tally. The country has over 1.6 million coronavirus cases.

China, on the other hand, reported zero new coronavirus infections on Saturday for the first time since it started reporting data in January, the news agency said in another report.

COVID-19: US Reports 1,260 Deaths; No New Infections in China For 1st Time

The United States recorded 1,260 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 95,921, news agency AFP reported on Saturday, citing the Johns Hopkins University tally. The country has over 1.6 million coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, China on Saturday reported zero new coronavirus infections for the first time since it started reporting data in January, the news agency said in another report.

According to Health Ministry data, there are now 69,597 active cases across the country, while 51,783 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated.

Incoming Flight Passengers from 6 States to Undergo Institutional Quarantine: Karnataka

With flight operations all set to resume on 25 May, the Karnataka police chief on Saturday said that incoming passengers from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh will have to undergo a 7-day institutional quarantine followed by a home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government has said all that all passengers coming to the Union territory by air or trains will be kept in institutional quarantine for 14 days and will be tested for COVID-19 using the RTPCR test.

If tested negative, they will be sent home, otherwise they will be sent to a hospital, the government said, reported ANI.

48 New COVID-19 Cases in Rajasthan, 2 Deaths

Rajasthan reported 48 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths till early on Saturday, taking the tally in the state to 6,542 and the death toll to 155. There are 2,695 active cases in the state currently.

80 New COVID-19 Cases in Odisha, Tally Rises to 1,269

As many as 80 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Odisha on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,269, including 826 active cases.

47 New COVID-19 Cases in Andhra Pradesh, Tally Rises to 2,561

As many as 47 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 2,561, including 56 deaths.

All Flights to Operate from Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport

With domestic flights set to resume from 25 May, the Delhi International Airport Limited on Saturday said all flights will be operating from Terminal 3 of the airport.

591 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Delhi; Tally Rises to 12,910

As many as 591 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the national capital to 12,910, including 6,412 active cases.

However, no new deaths have been reported.

Aviation Minister Hints At Resuming International Flights Before August

Union Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday, 23 May, that they will "try to start (a) good percentage of international passenger flights before August", days after he announced that domestic flight operations will recommence in a calibrated manner from 25 May.

"We will try to start (a) good percentage of international passenger flights before August... There's no contradiction between domestic flights beginning from 25 May and lockdown in India being imposed till 31 May," he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The minister was answering questions during a Facebook live session on civil aviation operations on Saturday.

Three employees of Cadila Pharmaceuticals' manufacturing unit in Dholka in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district have died of COVID-19, the company spokesperson was quoted by PTI as saying on Saturday.

21 New COVID-19 Cases in BSF in 24 Hrs

The Border Security Force has recorded 21 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. All of them are under treatment in designated COVID-19 healthcare hospitals.

The number of active cases in the force stand at 120, while 286 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, the BSF said, according to ANI.

Over 2600 Trains Run Till Now, Says Railway in Press Conference

“More than 2600 special trains have run till date, more than 35 Lakh migrants have availed the benefits of these trains,” said Punya Salila Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

“80 percent of the train journeys have been undertaken by the migrant labourers of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,” said Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav.

He added, “Around 2600 trains have been scheduled for next 10 days.”

One more person was tested positive for COVID-19 in West Imphal district yesterday, says Govt of Manipur. With this, the total number of cases has reached 27 out of which 25 cases are active, reports ANI.

93 Active Cases, 94 Recovered in ITBP

“No new case of COVID-19 reported in ITBP in the last 24 hours. Now, there are 93 active cases and 94 have recovered,” Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), reports ANI.

12 Fresh Cases in Gautam Budh Nagar Today

“17 new COVID-19 positive cases reported today, taking the total number of positive cases in the district to 323,” said District Surveillance Officer, Gautam Budh Nagar district, reports ANI.

216 Fresh COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka

"Two hundred and sixteen new COVID-19 positive cases reported in the state from 5 pm yesterday till 5 pm today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,959 including 608 discharges,” the Karnataka Health Department said.

3 New Cases Recorded From Jamshedpur

"Three new COVID-19 cases reported from Jamshedpur. Total positive cases in Jharkhand is 333 now,” said Jharkhand Health Secretary, Nitin Madan Kulkarni, reports ANI

121 Active Cases in Himachal Pradesh

“A total of 185 people in the state have tested positive for COVID-19 till date, including 57 recovered cases and 3 deaths. There are 121 active cases in the state now,” sad Department of Health and Family Welfare, Himachal Pradesh, reports ANI.

759 Positive Cases in TN; 5 Deaths Recorded Today

"Seven hundred and fifty-nine new COVID19 cases and five deaths reported in Tamil Nadu today; the total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 15,512, of which 7,915 are active cases. Death toll now stands at 103,” the Tamil Nadu Health Department said.

Three hundred and sixty-three were also discharged today.

Punjab Reports 16 New Cases

“Sixteen new COVID-19 positive cases reported in Punjab today, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 2,045, including 1,870 recovered and 39 deaths,” the Government of Punjab said.

No Air Travel Allowed Yet: Maharashtra Govt

“Maharashtra government has not amended its lockdown order dated 19 May. No air travel allowed yet in this order,” the state government said.

Fire Broke Out at COVID-19 Hospital in Delhi

A fire broke out at Cygnus Orthocare Hospital, a COVID-designated hospital, in the national capital on Saturday evening.

Eight coronavirus patients were evacuated from the hospital safely.

The fire broke out at the operation theater and recovery room of the hospital on the third floor, reports IANS.
