  • The Delhi High Court has directed the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government to consider increasing the salary of Delhi Police, to make it at par with Chandigarh Police.

  • Disposing a writ petition by Constable Babu Lal Mitharwal, a bench comprising Justice GS Sistani and Justice IS Mehta asked the government to consider the petitioner’s claim based on his right to ‘equal pay for equal work’, and pass an order on the matter within three months.

  • The petitioner, can also file a revised petition within a month’s time, which the Commissioner of Police of Delhi will forward to the Home Ministry for further deliberation.

  • Constable Mitharwal approached the Delhi High Court after an earlier plea on the matter was turned down by the Central Administrative Tribunal. The petitioner also cited a number of judgments including one in which Supreme Court directed pay parity to an Assam Rifles personnel with his counterparts in CRPF and BSF.
