Reportedly upset over not getting a transfer, a Sub-Inspector attached to Tamil Nadu Special Police 4th Battalion, in Coimbatore, attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison.

Srikanth consumed cow dung powder, a poisonous pesticide, at the police quarters at Kovaipudur in a bid to end his life, police said.

Colleagues noticed him struggling for life and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, police said.

On Thursday, Srikanth Jeysri posted a series of short videos on Facebook, alleging corruption in the higher ranks of his department. He said he could not bear pressure from higher officials over his attempts to expose corruption anymore.

Jeysri said that he was forced to sign on duplicate bills to pay a bribe of Rs 15,000 to his seniors. He said:

There was a lot of corruption involved. I took photos and sent it to the IG. An inquiry was commissioned. But, finally, no action was taken as the person was a higher official. There was corruption in the transport department, even in buying canteen essentials.

Jeysri named an official called Subramani, who allegedly collects Rs 15,000 from his juniors, every month.

Jeysri also blamed some senior officials of having committed forgeries to the tune of Rs 30 lakhs. He said that he was transferred to the 15th Battalion, for having exposed his seniors.

He added that assistant commandant Ashokan, who helped him was transferred to Delhi.

There’s only one option left, now: suicide. I’ll do it. Then you’ll ask questions. If I give my life, the officers in Tamil Nadu will sit up and listen.
