A teacher who was threatened with rape, by a class seven student in an elite Gurugram school, sent her resignation letter to the school on Thursday 22 February, The Times of India reported. Her minor daughter, who is the accused student's classmate has not attended classes since the incident.

A 13-year-old student, studying in class seven of the elite Gurugram school, threatened to rape his teacher and her minor daughter, in a post on social media site Facebook, while another teenage student emailed a teacher offering a date and sex, rattling the institution’s administration.

Both the alleged incidents happened last week, sources said to PTI.

In her resignation letter, accessed by TOI, the teacher wrote that she was emotionally distressed and felt that “overexposure to technology is damaging the mind and conduct of young children.”

The English daily added that the teacher’s husband has filed a complaint at Gwalpahari police post, which has been forwarded to the Gurugram cyber crime cell, but no FIR has been registered yet.

The District Child Welfare Committee on Wednesday 21 February had decided to issue a notice to the school and is mulling counselling sessions for the children and school authorities.

According to sources, the school authorities are also examining the incidents following complaints by the teachers. The school has a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts, and a suitable course of action is being considered, according to a source.

Gurgaon District Child Welfare Committee chairperson Shakuntala Dhull said 'suo motu' cognisance of the incidents had been taken.

A notice will be sent to the school and the children. They will be called for questioning. Counselling sessions will be held for the school authorities, including the teachers and kids, she said.

This is not the first time that a top school in the “millenium city” has made headlines for the wrong reasons.

In a widely publicised case, a seven-year-student was found killed, with his throat slit, in Gurgaon's Ryan International School. The CBI, which is probing the case, had arrested a class eleven student of the same school for the alleged killing.

(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
