A day after DMK president MK Stalin addressed workers of a leather-based industry and Muslim community leaders at Ambur falling under Vellore Lok Sabha constituency, the police have registered a case against him for alleged violation of the code of conduct. On Thursday, 1 August, Stalin addressed among workers of Farida Group, a leading leather products firm in Ambur, seeking support to his party candidate DM Kathir Anand.
Soon after Stalin left the venue, poll authorities led by Additional Assistant Returning Officer R Sujatha sealed the hall for not obtaining permission to host the meeting. She also lodged two complaints on Thursday with the Ambur Town police station regarding the poll code violations, sources said.

As many as 90 boys and girls who are students of the government high school were admitted in the government hospital on Friday after eating at the government run noon meal centre. Students of the Thippachandaram high school near Denkannikottai of Krishnagiri, showed symptoms of vomiting and abdominal pain after eating food cooked in the government kitchen.
This incident came to light after a girl started vomiting continuously after eating food given in the school. As many as 18 others showed similar symptom within a few hours and were taken to the Denkannikottai government hospital. The Krishnagiri district administration has ordered a probe to check whether it is a case of food poisoning, allegedly due to a dead lizard found in the sambar.

The target for completion of the Rs 3,500-crore Maduravoyal-Chennai Port six-lane elevated corridor project is 2024, but the project whose detailed project report (DPR) has been finalised is yet to take off due to pending issues, say official sources. Sources said the DPR is ready and discussions are on whether to allow local traffic on the 20.3km proposed highway or not and issues pertaining to land acquisition and handing over of Navy land by Chennai Port Trust.
This comes as Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary K Shanmugham along with Chennai Port Chairman P Ravindran and other officials reviewed the project along with other stakeholders on Friday.

The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) has directed Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu for five more days. A meeting of the CWRC took place in Bengaluru on Thursday, headed by Chairman Navin Kumar. The decision comes even as the Krishnarajasagar and Kabini dams in the state have seen below average inflows.
As of 1 August, the storage level of the Krishnarajasagar dam was 8.51 tmc ft, 33.91 tmc ft below last year's level (42.42 tmc ft) for the corresponding period. Levels at the Kabini stood at 9.60 tmc ft while it was 15.13 tmc ft during the same time last year. It added that the position would be reviewed in the next meeting tentatively fixed for 8 August in New Delhi.

The Tamil Nadu government has suspended a Deputy Superintendent of Police for sexually harassing a subordinate female officer in 2015. S Venakatraman, who was the DSP of the land grabbing division in Nagapattinam, was suspended on Wednesday, when he was supposed to superannuate from service.
The sexual harassment complaint against the police officer was filed when he was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, intelligence unit in Trichy. He was accused by the husband of woman sub-inspector, of making sexual advances to his wife. Following the complaint, he was transferred out of Trichy and made a DSP at Kolachal in Kanyakumari. The charges were confirmed by the Superintendent of Police, Perambalur Disha Mittal IPS, who formally probed the complaint.
