There is one place in Chennai that is bone dry and hence, an ideal place for people to spend nights – the Chennai airport, except the runway of course.
A report in The New Indian Express details out how the airport, which remains shut till December 6, has turned into a dormitory for several people who have camped outside for around three days now.
But even though this group of people are better off than many others in the city who have had to deal with the floods, they too are facing many difficulties; they have been wearing the same clothes for three days, have to walk a long distance to fetch food, and use staff washrooms.
The people who are waiting at the airport are either ‘in transit’ or had planned to leave the city after a short stay, and so have no place to go in the city.
