Pakistan Violates Ceasefire in J&K’s Rajouri, Poonch Districts

The Indian Army was retaliating strongly and effectively, a defence spokesperson said.

The Pakistan Army on Tuesday, 27 February, violated the ceasefire and resorted to shelling on forward posts and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Pakistan Army initiated an unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortar bombs from 0850 hours today in the Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector along the LoC (in Poonch district)," a defence spokesperson said.

The Indian Army was retaliating strongly and effectively, he added.

The Pakistani troops also resorted to shelling of mortars along the LoC in the Tarkundi Gali, Lambi Bari, Khorinar, Dhar and Panjgrian areas of the Manjakote sector in Rajouri since morning, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, said.

The schools in the affected areas in Rajouri district were closed as a precautionary measure, he added.

Few children were stranded in their school in Manjakote sector of Rajouri district, ANI reported. The headmaster of the school told the news agency that the students have been asked to wait till the firing stops.

Rajnath Singh Meets Mehbooba Mufti Over Situation in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday, 27 February, met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed the prevailing situation in the state, an official said.

During the 20-minute meeting, the chief minister briefed the Union home minister on the security situation in the Valley as well as along the border with Pakistan, which has been witnessing heavy cross-border firing and continuous attempts of infiltration by militants.

The Home Ministry said it will reimburse all the funds spent by the Jammu and Kashmir government to pay compensation for losses to the victims of cross-border firing.
