In a relief for nearly 14 lakh students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided against holding a retest for the Class 10 Mathematics paper that was leaked before the exam, PTI reported.
The final decision of not conducting the test came after a thorough analysis and evaluation of the answer sheets. The answer sheets showed “no major departure from the performance of students in their internal assessment”, The Indian Express reported. An order announcing the decision will be issued in a few hours from now, the report added.
HRD Ministry secretary Anil Swarup announced on Tuesday, 3 April, that re-examination will not be conducted, even in Delhi-NCR and Haryana. In a tweet, he said:
The CBSE had earlier announced re-examination of class 10 Mathematics and class 12 Economics papers hours after reports of exam leak surfaced on 28 March. The board’s decision against a re-exam for class 10 students comes a day after the Delhi High Court agreed to hear a plea seeking a court-monitored probe into the CBSE paper leak. The Supreme Court will hear pleas related to CBSE re-examination on 4 April.
The HRD Ministry announced that the re-examination of Class 12 paper will be conducted on 25 April, but it had not declared a date for Class 10 students in order to assess the impact of the alleged leak.
CBSE personnel, identified as KS Rana, was suspended after being found lax in supervising an examination centre. On 3 April, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also issued notices to the Centre, CBSE and Delhi Police over the paper leak of class 10 and class 12 board examination.
