One-and-a-half years after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began probing the alleged links between Niira Radia and government officials and industrialists in the 2G spectrum case, the Times of India (TOI) reports that the agency has concluded that “there was no criminality in any matter”.

“The probe revealed that no favour was extended to any company by any official as suggested in the conversations. Radia was just boasting about her links and there is no criminality in that,” a senior officer was quoted by TOI.

After obtaining the transcripts of the Radia tapes from the Income Tax Department, the Supreme Court had asked the CBI to investigate “criminality” in 14 issues that were identified by the agency.

The agency will now inform the court that all the 14 enquiries would be closed in the next few weeks due to “lack of evidence”, the report added.   In its preliminary enquiries, the CBI had named big industries including Tata Steel, Reliance Industries Limited, and Unitech, among others.

Several individuals such as the former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, former corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, Income Tax officials and others were also named in the enquiries.
