“I lost my mind.”

This is what Ashok Kumar, the bus conductor who allegedly fatally stabbed a 7-year-old student in Gurugram’s Ryan International School, told Aaj Tak.

Kumar revealed that he had been employed by the school nine months ago.

The boy came to the washroom while I was already there. He caught me doing something inappropriate and I got scared... I lost my mind.

Kumar said that he pulled the child into the washroom when he tried escaping.

I pushed him into the washroom before he could go out and tell people what I was doing.

When questioned about the knife, he said that it was in his bus and he had gotten it to the washroom to clean it.

I went to the washroom to clean the knife which was already kept in my bus.

He said that he did not do “anything wrong” with the child, even as he admitted wanting to. This comes after reports alleged he sexually abused the child and subsequently killed him.

I did not do anything wrong with the child, even though I wanted to... I have never done anything wrong with any child in the past.

The accused said that it was a sudden urge that made him take that step.

When asked on why the support staff was using the school washroom, he said that it was used by them routinely and no one objected from the management.

Conductors, drivers and clerks go to the students’ washroom frequently. No one says anything. Sometimes they tell us not to use them but there are no repercussions for not following the rule.

Kumar said that the child screamed when he stabbed him and he felt bad about what he had done.
