One Dead, 3 Rescued as Building Collapses in Punjab’s Mohali

The SDM of Kharar has been ordered to inquire into the incident and submit a report within three days, reports say.

Officials said three persons have been rescued and efforts are on to find out if more people were trapped under the debris.

One person died and three were rescued from the debris as a three-storey building collapsed in Punjab's Mohali district on Saturday, 8 February, police said.

Taking serious note of the incident, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh asked the Mohali additional district magistrate to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and submit his report within a week.

Officials said that efforts are on to find any more people trapped under the debris. The building, located on the Kharar-Landran road, came down when a JCB machine was digging in an adjoining plot to construct a basement, Kharar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Himanshu Jain said. as reported by PTI.

Rescue Operation Conducted

A 30-member team of the National Disaster Response Force conducted the rescue operation, and police, civil administration personnel and NGO workers also assisted in the efforts. Sniffer dogs were reportedly still looking for any person trapped under the debris.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said that the JCB machine driver, Harvinder Singh, died in the incident. His body was retrieved from the debris late on Saturday evening.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dayalan said that the SDM of Kharar has been ordered to inquire into the incident and submit a report within three days.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh tweeted about the incident, mentioning the relief efforts.
