A three-storey building collapsed in the Banglawali Chali area in Amraiwadi, Ahmedabad, on Thursday, 5 September.
“As many as 20 firefighting vehicles were rushed to the spot for the rescue operation,” said an official of the fire brigade.
Police and local residents joined the operation to rescue the trapped people by removing concrete chunks and other materials.
Locals have claimed that the building was at least a century old. BJP’s Amraiwadi councillor Baldev Desai has also confirmed the same, reported Hindustan Times.
The rescue operation came to an end on Friday morning, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Baldev Suri (84), his wife Vimala Suri (80) and their son Rajendra Suri (50); Asha Patel (36) and Shantaben Thakor (80).
