A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Rameez Ahmad Parrey, was shot dead by four Lahkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Bandipora’s Hajin in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 27 September.
North Kashmir IG Nitish Kumar confirmed the involvement of LeT terrorists. He said:
Constable Parrey, who was posted in Baramulla town with the 73 battalion, had come home for a holiday. Militants forced their way into the Kashmiri jawan’s house at Parrey Mohalla and fired indiscriminately at his family.
The condition of the jawan's aunt was said to be serious, while that of the three others was stable.
SP Vaid, director general of Jammu and Kashmir police, termed the incident as "barbaric and inhumane". He added the guilty would be punished.
In a statement, the BSF said:
The incident comes after a Lieutenant ranked army officer, Ummer Fayaz, was killed by militants in south Kashmir in May. The officer was kidnapped by militants while attending a family marriage on 9 May. His bullet-riddled body was found the next morning at Harmen in Shopian district.
