A 24-year-old electrician was killed on Delhi’s Signature Bridge on Thursday, 18 April, after a metal wire from the bridge pierced his chest, police said. The victim, identified as Pranav Mishra, was found lying on the divider by a passerby, who informed the police.
According to a report in Hindustan Times , a thick metal wire attached to the bridge allegedly broke off during Wednesday’s dust storm, which then pierced Mishra’s chest after hitting his head and face.
Ongoing construction work at the bridge had loosened the metal wire, reported news agency IANS.
"We have registered a case of death due to negligence," Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Thakur said.
This is not the first accidental death to happen on the Signature Bridge. Days after it had been inaugurated by the Delhi government in November last year, two medical students died after their bike rammed the side of the bridge when they were attempting to click selfies.
There have also been accidents owing to rash driving.
