A police post manned by one sub-inspector and five constables has been set up in Bijnor’s Pedda village, two days after three people were killed in an attack by a Jat mob that allegedly fired indiscriminately at a Muslim family, reported The Indian Express.

The police post was established in an attempt to “allay fears” and “maintain peace and harmony” in the Muslim-dominated village.

The decision to set up the police post was taken on Saturday. It has been done to maintain peace in the area.

The Muslim community was also lauded by the local MLA for maintaining peace after the incident.

We applaud the Muslim community, that they did not retaliate and stopped it from turning into a riot-like situation. There are people who are finding ways to worsen the situation. That is why we decided to hold a meeting in the village on Sunday with both communities to maintain peace and harmony.
Ruchi Veera, Bijnor MLA

A fight broke out between the two communities after a Muslim girl was allegedly harassed by some Hindu boys while on her way to school. Things, however, calmed down subsequently. Later, over 100 people from the Jat community from surrounding villages reportedly gathered in Pedda and some of them allegedly fired at one Muslim family.
