The Supreme Court on 20 April quashed the Patna High Court's order granting bail to Bachcha Rai, the mastermind of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) topper scam.

Rai is the secretary-cum-principal of Vishun Rai College in Bihar's Vaishali district. Ruby Rai and Saurabh Shrestha, who topped the state board exams in Arts and Science, respectively, were students of the college.

Ruby Rai found herself at the centre of the BSEB scandal in 2016, after she was caught on video saying that the subject she had topped in, Humanities, was about the ‘art of cooking’.

Earlier last month, the Patna High Court had granted conditional bail to Rai after not being convicted by the lower court within a month.
