The Kerala police seems to have made further headway in the case of a prominent Malayalam actress’ abduction and rape.
After arresting one of the accused – the actress’ driver, Martin – on Saturday, the police have reportedly arrested two more accused from Coimbatore. With this, the police have been able to nab three out of the seven accused in the case.
According to reports, a team led by Aluva SP raided their hideout in Coimbatore in the wee hours of Sunday.
The identities of the two arrested are not yet known.
In light of the incident, a protest meet has been organised by the Malayalam film fraternity at 6 pm in Ernakulam.
The actress was attacked by a group of men on Friday night. The actress was reportedly traveling from Thrissur to Kochi when she was abducted.
The actress was travelling from a film production unit on Friday night when a group of men attacked her vehicle, in a van, near Angamaly.
She was later dropped near a director's house. She filed a complaint at the Nedumbassery police station with the help of the director.
In her complaint, the actress said she was assaulted many times inside the vehicle and that the gang also took obscene photographs of her using their phones.
The actress’ driver, Martin, has been arrested. Martin has been accused of conspiring with another accused, identified as ‘Pulsar’ Suni, the actress’ former driver, who was reportedly replaced as he was an accused in a murder case. Suni had reportedly recommended that the actress hire Martin to replace him.
Ramesh Chennithala, former Home Minister, has condemned the attack and has said that the incident shows the deterioration of law and order.
Since this is a case of suspected sexual assault, the name of the actress has been withheld.
