A bunch of youngsters in Bengaluru decided to express their frustrations with the pothole menace in the city through song. The rap uses a mix of Kannada and English lyrics and has been a big hit.
Pothole ‘Patrike’, a Bangalore-based group, was the brainchild behind the conceptualisation of the video. The song was worded powerfully and gained a lot of attention on social media. The rap goes like this: “It’s not like before, now I am riding slow. Even if the road is straight, no, I cannot go. Why? Why bro?” They also provide an answer to it: “I am busy all the way. Doing what? Spotting the holes.”
The video uses satire and sarcasm to talk about how potholes have made life difficult for pedestrians and motorists. The rap has also questioned the inaction of civic authorities in providing adequate infrastructure in the city.
Despite the BBMP launching an app in a bid to ensure that potholes are fixed in a timely manner, there was no real effect. Even the final deadline to fix potholes set by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was not met. It looks like potholes in Bengaluru will continue to outnumber the roads.
