Ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who committed suicide over One Rank One Pension (OROP), made a last call to his younger son Balvinder in Haryana, telling him that he was a man of principles.
Sitting in the India Gate lawns, Grewal told his younger son on Tuesday afternoon that he had consumed three to four tablets of a poisonous substance. He also told his son that he had been a man of principles throughout life and did not want to bend.
He was declared brought dead on arrival by doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
He was visiting Jantar Mantar with three other associates to hold a protest against non implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) sixth and seventh Pay Commission recommendation.
Grewal was the headman of Bamla Village of Bhiwani district in Haryana. He also told his son that he had successfully undertaken many development projects for the welfare of villagers as headman.
