Six-Year-Old Girl Gangraped by Sweepers in Rajasthan School

This incident comes barely a week after a child was found murdered in Ryan International School, Gurugram.

On Friday, a six-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by sweepers at a government school in Rajasthan’s Barmer.

Police filed a complaint on the basis of the victim’s father’s statement, which stated that the class 2 student was tied to a table near the school’s washroom and gangraped by sweepers. Police detained two men, who are both sweepers of the school, as Hindustan Times reported.

The women’s police station in-charge in Barmer, Anita Rani, said an FIR has been filed under Section 376(D), 376-2(I) of the Indian Penal Code and the anti-child sexual abuse act.

Doctors confirmed that the child was in the hospital and stable.

Doctors have not found any external or internal injuries on the girl in the medical examination. But we have sent her vaginal swab for forensic examination...We have asked a deputy SP to investigate the case.

The victim complained of pain in her private parts and her parents rushed her to the local hospital, bringing the incident to light. Doctors suspected sexual assault and police was informed.

Singla and district collector Shivprasad Nakate inspected the school premises and authorities were questioned.

Rajasthan home department’s data shows that in the last three years, 56 cases of alleged sexual violence against girls by their school teachers have been registered. 

Data also shows that none of the teachers have been convicted and five have even been acquitted. Presently, 36 cases are pending before courts.
