Days after the daughter of an Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party legislator asked the police for security, alleging that her father could likely harm her, the couple was roughed up by some men at the Allahabad High Court premises where they had gone to seek protection, news agency ANI reported on Monday, 15 July.
The Allahabad HC had given prior directions to the police for protection of Sakshi and Ajitesh. "Only Ajitesh was beaten up. It's not known who were these people. But it proves that there is indeed a threat to their life for which they were seeking protection,” the couple’s lawyer told ANI.
Sakshi Misra (23), who is the daughter of Rajesh Misra, the MLA from Bithari Chainpur in Bareilly district, uploaded a video on social media on 10 July and informed about her wedding to Ajitesh Kumar (29).
The couple had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Allahabad High Court on Thursday, seeking protection to "live a peaceful life" as a married couple, news agency PTI reported. Their plea was accepted by the Allahabad High Court during the hearing on Monday.
THE OTHER SIDE
The BJP MLA, however, denied the allegations, stating that his daughter was an adult and has the right to take her decisions.
Referring to her father and brother by their nicknames, Sakshi, in the video said:
THE BIG PICTURE
In another video, she has apprehended threat to her life from her father, brother and an associate, and urged the Bareilly senior superintendent of police to extend security to them.
Deputy Inspector General R K Pandey said he had come to know of the video messages and had asked the SSP to extend security to the couple. The DIG, however, said the police do not know where to give her security as she had not disclosed her location, PTI reported.
