Bahraich SOG Tortures Youth Arrested on Suspicion of Selling Smack

The SOG asked for a Rs 5 lakh bribe for his release. After family could’t pay up, Ahmed was given 3rd degree torture

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, has been accused of fake arrest and torture within custody, by the family on one Ashu Mian, a 28-year-old who was arrested on suspicion of smuggling smack. According to the family of Ashu, who also goes by the name of Jamil Ahmad, the Special Operations Group of the Bahraich police even subjected him to third-degree torture when the family was not able to bribe the police for his release.

According to the family, the SOG had asked for a Rs 5 lakh bribe for Ahmed’s release. After not getting the Rs 5 lakh, the police subjected Ahmed to third-degree torture at an unknown location.

WHAT IS THE WHOLE CASE

According to reports, Ashu Mian aka Jamil Ahmad, a resident of Rupaidiha area’s Muslimbagh and a long-time Tuberculosis patient was picked up on suspicion of smuggling smack by the Bahraich police SOG. He had come to Bahraich to collect his medicines.

CHARGES ON BAHRAICH POLICE SOG

The family has alleged that the SOG even tried to electrocute Ahmad to death while in custody. The youth has been in critical condition, and has been admitted to the Lucknow medical college after being beaten up badly under custody.

Dr Gaurav Grover, SP of Bahraich said that the matter is being investigated and that strict action will be taken against the guilty.

“From media reports and through other mediums, we have got to know that a resident of Rupaidiha is admitted to Lucknow KGMC right now. He was possibly detained by a team of the Bahraich police. Soon after this is confirmed, the ASP was handed over the investigations. He will look into all the details of the case. In order the keep the investigation neutral, the SOG charge has been sent to the line.”

As soon as the incident took place, SP Bahraich Dr Gaurav Grover has roped in the SOG team in charge RP Yadav with immediate effect, while no action has been taken on the team constables. The matter has been investigated by the ASP Ravinder Kumar Singh.
