The Supreme Court on Friday, 8 March, referred the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for mediation by a panel headed by former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla and gave it eight weeks to complete the process.
The other members of the panel will be spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu, said a five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and added that they can co-opt more members if needed.
As the apex court referred the case for mediation, Union Minister Uma Bharti refused to comment on the SC order, further saying that as a Hindu, she thinks a temple should be born where Lord Ram was born.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on the other hand, expressed his disapproval towards the appointment of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as a member of the panel. He said that it’d be better if court appointed a neutral person in return.
Former Union Minister and the head of the committee, Ibrahim Kalifullah, on the other hand said that the committee will make every effort to resolve the issue amicably.
