Arguments in Ram Janmabhoomi Appeals to Begin on 5 December

The Supreme Court on Friday fixed 5 December as the date for the next hearing on the appeals relating to the Ram Janmabhoomi case. The date follows from the apex court’s grant of three months time for making translations of the historic documents required for hearings.

The Supreme Court has constituted a three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra to hear a batch of petitions challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute case.

The bench, whose other members are Justices Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer, would adjudicate the dispute over ownership of Ram temple-Babri masjid land.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had in 2010 ruled a three-way division of the disputed 2.77 acres area at the Ram temple-Babri masjid site in Ayodhya.

The three-judge bench of the high court, by a 2:1 majority, had said the land be partitioned equally among three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

Build Ram Temple at Babri Masjid Site: Shia Waqf Board to SC

The Shia Waqf Board in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday had filed a 30-page affidavit to the Supreme Court over the disputed site in Ayodhya.

A mosque can be built in a Muslim-dominated area at a reasonable distance from the disputed site in Ayodhya.

The Board said that the temple can be built at the site, with a mosque nearby. It also sought time from SC to set up a committee for exploring an amicable settlement of the dispute.

VHP Stockpiles Stones to Construct Ram Mandir in Ayodhya

Earlier in July, at least three trucks of red stones were brought for building the Ram mandir in Ayodhya, under the supervision of the fringe outfit Vishswa Hindu Parishad.

Despite the decision on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi site being pending with the Supreme Court, the VHP has started stockpiling stones for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
