The court has extended the CBI custody of SP Tyagi and the other two accused by three days. It has also asked the CBI to complete the questioning within three days.
The CBI counsel says in court that classified documents of the Indian government were recovered from Guido Haschke’s mother’s residence in Switzerland. Haschke was named as the key middleman in the AugustaWestland deal.
The court was further informs that some of Tyagi’s foreign investments were not reflected in the income tax returns and that the defence HQ was not informed about them either.
The CBI counsel says that the agency wants to confront Tyagi with replies it received through letters rogatory from other countries.
SP Tyagi's counsel says that the CBI counsel has all the material, but the latter is repeating the details for the media.
Tyagi’s counsel further states that the CBI has violated the rule of law and even the Supreme Court’s guidelines.
While citing High Court rules, the counsel also says that non-completion of police investigation doesn’t justify detention.
The CBI, in the Patiala House court, says that Tyagi had abused his official position by meeting a senior official from Agusta at his residence.
The investigative agency also informs the court that custodial interrogation of the accused is imperative as they are in possession of material received from Switzerland, Italy and other nations.
Former Air Force chief SP Tyagi and two others, arrested in the Rs 450 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal bribery case, will be produced in the court on Wednesday after four days in custody.
On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said their interrogation was essential to unearth a “very large conspiracy having international ramifications”. The Patiala House Court had remanded Tyagi and his cousin Sanjeev Tyagi alias Julie and advocate Gautam Khaitan.
The CBI alleged that Khaitan was the “brain” behind how the bribe money reached India and several firms, through which the money came into existence and that Sanjeev was known to alleged European middleman Carlo Gerosa.
