In the draft National Register of Citizens or NRC released by the Government of Assam, more than one lakh people’s names have been excluded. The list was released on 26 June and the 1, 02,462 names which were included in July 2018 were found ineligible for inclusion and thereby excluded.
People can check their names online on the NRC Assam Exclusion List by following the given steps:
Apart from online, people can also check their names on the list which will be available at their designated NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs). The list will also be available in deputy commissioners’ office, sub-divisional officers’ (civil) office and other circle officers’ offices.
People whose names have been excluded from the draft NRC will also receive a Letter of Information (LOI) informing them of the same. The LOI will be sent to their residential address.
People who have been excluded from the draft NRC have a chance to file for their claims at the designated NRC help centres by 11 July.
