Narayan Sai, son of Asaram Bapu, was sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case on Tuesday, 30 April, reported news agency ANI.
Sai was convicted in the rape case, brought forward by two sisters in Surat, by a sessions court in Surat on Friday.
Apart from life imprisonment, Sai has also been fined Rs 1 lakh, reported India Today.
Among the two sisters, the younger one has alleged that she was raped by Narayan Sai after identifying the locations, while the older sister said Asaram Bapu raped her.
The court has produced 53 witnesses against Narayan Sai in the case, prompting him to go underground when the case was registered. He was later arrested in 2013 on the Delhi-Haryana border, two months after the FIR was registered.
Sai has also been accused of trying to bribe jail officials of Rs 13 crore, but has managed to get a bail in the bribery case.
