Filmmaker and artist Pravin Mishra has slapped a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against journalist Surabhi Vaya, for accusing Mishra last year of sexual assault, when the #MeToo movement was at its peak, a Deccan Herald report says.

According to the report, the court has issued a notice to Vaya and scheduled the hearing for 30 November.

The case was filed on Friday, 4 October in Ahmedabad’s Mirzapur court.

Vaya had, last year in October, posted on her Facebook account, how Mishra allegedly assaulted her at his residence two years ago.

The DH report says that the Facebook post from 2018 was not to be found on Vaya’s Facebook as of Saturday, 5 October. The publication was not able to reach out to her as well.

Mishra’s lawyer told DH that the suit has been filed for the loss of his client’s reputation and livelihood, among others. Mishra on the other hand refused to give any further details in the matter, after confirming filing the lawsuit.

Pravin Mishra is known for his stand on certain issues, where he is critical of the government. He had contested Assembly polls against PM Modi in 2007, from Maninagar constituency in Gujarat.
