An Army major and a soldier were killed in an IED blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Friday, 11 January, police officials told PTI.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was planted by suspected militants in foot-track along the LoC to target army soldiers patrolling the borderline in Laam belt of Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, they said.
The blast resulted in injuries to two soldiers, including a major, the officials said, adding they were rushed to a hospital where they succumbed to injuries.
Quoting sources, The Indian Express reported that two explosions took place near the Roopmati forward post in Pukkharni area; one at 4.30 pm and another around 6 pm.
Both the IEDs were suspected to have been planted by militants from across the LoC. Army soldiers have been alerted against IED blasts and attacks by the border action teams (BATs) of the Pakistan Army, they said.
In another incident on Friday evening, militants attacked a CRPF bunker in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir by hurling a grenade, but there were no reports of loss of life, police said.
Militants hurled a UBGL grenade at a CRPF bunker near the Palladium Cinema at the city centre Lal Chowk on Friday evening, a police official said.
The blast caused no casualties, the official added.
