An army jawan was on Saturday, 6 April, shot dead inside his home in the Sopore area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir by terrorists, police said.
The terrorists barged into the residence of Mohammad Rafi Yatoo, an army jawan, and fired at him indiscriminately, a police official said. Yatoo was on leave and had come home just five days ago. He was posted with 52 Rashtriya Rifles, deployed in north Kashmir, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
He had joined the army seven years ago, officials said, according to the report.
Yatoo was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
After the shooting, police and the army launched a search operation in the area. No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the killing. A case has been registered and police is investigating the circumstances of this terror crime,” the spokesman said, reported Hindustan Times.
In 2018, a similar incident had occurred when Rifleman Aurangzeb was abducted and killed while he was on leave and going home for Eid. The jawan’s bullet-ridden body was recovered from Pulwama district later on 14 June, hours after he was abducted by militants.
