Three militants were killed as a 24-hour long gun battle came to an end in the Bahmnoo village of Pulawma district in south Kashmir. The security forces had earlier launched a search operation in the area, following information about the presence of militants in the area.

While two militants were killed sometime last evening, the third militant was reportedly putting up a tough fight, according to Greater Kashmir.

Para commandos were roped in late last night to kill the third militant, after security forces blew up three residential houses where the militants were believed to have been hiding.

The two militants who were killed on Monday have been identified as Kifayat and Jehangir Khanday. The third militant was killed early Tuesday morning.

Two members from the forces – an army major and a CRPF personnel – were also injured in the ensuing gun battle. They have been moved to a hospital, where their condition is reportedly stable.

Greater Kashmir reported clashes between the locals and the security forces as well, who pelted stones on the latter to help the militants escape. The forces responded with teargas and pellets, injuring at least 35, said the report. The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital.

A policeman was also attacked in the state’s Anantnag district on Monday after militants attacked a police party. He is in a critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital.

This comes two days after top Lashkar militant Bashir Lashkari and his associate were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Anantnag district.
