A woman and her mother tried setting themselves on fire outside the district magistrate's office in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 29 August, alleging police inaction in a rape case.
Makhi police station has come under scanner, despite facing apex court scrutiny and drawing flak from CBI for allowing sacked the henchmen of sacked BJP MLA Kuldeep Senger a free run.
According to reports, the survivor was kidnapped from her house in Makhi village on 1 July and raped by three men.
The survivor said the three men had come to inform her that her father was seriously wounded in an accident and offered to accompany her to the hospital. However, they instead took her through a forest, where she was reportedly raped.
“Immolation was the last option to end our trauma,” said the survivor said while speaking to The Times of India.
However, Circle Officer Gaurav Tripathi claimed that one of the accused had already been arrested and sent to jail while the two others are still absconding.
He assured that they would be arrested soon.
