Humanity appears to have reached an embarrassing new low. In a horrific incident, two dogs were brutally assaulted using an iron rod with spikes in Maharashtra’s Solapur. One dog died on the spot, while the other canine, who is being treated at an NGO, is said to be in a critical condition.
Mumbai-based animal activist and animal welfare officer Manoj Oswal said that a fellow activist, Mahesh Bhandari, informed him late on 8 December about the dogs.
Bhandari said “that someone had beaten up the dogs using a rod that had iron nails on one end,” Oswal said.
Oswal directed Bhandari to rush the injured dog to a veterinary hospital. Bhandari was also advised to take the body of the deceased dog for a post-mortem. However, he was unable to do so since the municipal corporation had already disposed off the body by the time he got to the spot.
“This is actually destruction of evidence. There were injury marks of both, iron rod and nails, on the dog’s body,” Oswal told Mid-Day.
No FIRs have been lodged in the case so far. Oswal is reportedly headed to Solapur to file a complaint and get “the criminals arrested”.
