Mumbai Police commissioner Ahmed Javed has admitted that he knew Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, reported Times Now.
“Yes, I knew Peter and Indrani socially. Had invited them for a party.” the Mumbai Police commissioner told Times Now.
Ahmad Javed, replaced Rakesh Maria as the Mumbai Police commissioner on September 8. His transfer was speculated to be the outcome of his overzealous involvement in the Sheena Bora murder case.
The Quint had earlier reported that, it was immediately communicated to Maria who quickly handed over charge to Javed before taking a hurried departure salute and leaving the commissionerate in his official Scorpio vehicle. Appearing grim-faced as he hurried down the carpeted stairs leading to the portico, Maria refused to make any comments. One Joint Commissioner of Police admitted that Maria’s removal was “indeed a surprise”.
Knowledgeable sources told The Quint that Maria believes that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ decision to transfer him before flying out to Japan was not political and that he suspects a strong IPS lobby in the state, worked the bureaucratic levers to have him removed as Mumbai Police chief.
The sources also said that Maria’s disinclination to continue leading the investigation into the case stems from the fact that the state government did not issue any written order directing him to remain in command of the probe. “Without written directives, Maria has no locus standi to pursue the case which is being pursued on the ground by a team of officers whom he has complete faith and trust on,” a very senior official told The Quint.
