Pushpender Singh, who has been on the police’s wanted list for his involvement in at least nine different crimes, which included a Rs 35 lakh robbery from a petrol pump, was arrested after a brief encounter near Kondli Pulia, Delhi on Tuesday reports ANI.
According to Times of India, Singh later confessed to the police that after the robbery he had also murdered two of his gang members, Bunty (26) and Jeeta (25), so that he wouldn’t have to share the bounty with them. He allegedly shot them and then dumped their bodies in a canal near Baghpath. One other member of his gang, Neeraj, was also murdered, the report adds.
According to the report, the police had set up a trap for him on 25 January, when they got wind of the fact that Singh would be appearing on a motor-bike near the Dharamshila hospital on the same night. After a brief encounter, when Singh opened fire on the team that intercepted him, which was led by Inspector Shiv Kumar, he was overpowered and arrested.
According to what Pradeep and Robin, two of Singh’s gang-members, allegedly confessed to the police, Singh was planning to buy AK-47 rifles and carbine pistols with the money he had stolen from the petrol pump, reports Times of India.
The report adds that Singh confessed that he was accompanied by eight other members of his gang in robbing the petrol pump, and had recruited several others to his cause as well.
Singh was rumoured to have been planning to initiate a gang-war in Hapur, so he could gain control of the sand-mines from the villages, according to what some of his gang-members, who had surrendered to the police, allegedly told them.
According to Pramod Kushwaha, DCP, special cell of the Delhi police, they recovered a semi-automatic pistol from him and registered a case of attempt to murder under the relevant Sections of the IPC against him as well, the Times of India report added.
