Just a month after 16-year-old Junaid Khan was stabbed to death on a Mathura-bound train, days before Eid, Chander Prakash, one of the accused in the case was granted bail by the Faridabad court.
Junaid’s family has alleged that Prakash was one of the “main culprits” in the crime.
YS Rathor, the Additional Sessions Judge, dropped the IPC 34 (common intent) charge against Prakash while granting bail, confirming “applicant did not share any common intention with the main accused, namely Naresh, in committing the murder of deceased… and for attempting to commit murder of the other victims”.
The bail was given on the payment of a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and compliance to three conditions – that Parkash doesn’t commit “an offence similar to the offence of which he is accused, or suspected”; that he does not “tamper with evidence” or “directly or indirectly” make any “inducement, threat, or promise” to anyone who knows the facts of the case to “dissuade” them from disclosing these; and he is not to leave the country without the court’s permission.
The days following the incident, Parkash was arrested along with four other people on 28 June. All of them confessed to being part of the mob that harassed Junaid and his brothers, but not to wielding the knife. The main accused Naresh Kumar was arrested on 8 July.
