On a day when the Delhi University’s North Campus saw protests by right-wing student and teacher organisations against 'anti-national' activities by "left-leaning" students, a Facebook post by an ABVP member claiming sexual assault gained traction on the social media portal.
In the post first uploaded on 24 February – two days after the Ramjas protests– Prerna Bhardwaj, the ABVP’s Unit President at Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College, alleged that she was molested by AISA and SFI members for “standing up for the country”.
Speaking to NDTV, the ABVP member called the media out for being “biased”. She then went on to make an emotional appeal, saying her “wounds don’t hurt any less” just because she is from ABVP.
This Facebook post comes on the back of allegations by female students that they were sexually harassed by ABVP ‘goons’ during the Ramjas protest.
It also comes on a day when Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, approached the Delhi Commission of Women over alleged rape and death threats for her campaign #StudentsAgainstABVP.
